George Aldred

GEORGE ALDRED
1878-11th April 1918

George Aldred was born in 1878 in Flixton.

His parents were Thomas born in 1847 in Flixton ,he was a bricklayer and Elizabeth Owen born in 1846 in Oulton, Yorkshire who was a a laundress.

Thomas and Elizabeth both died in 1908.They are buried in St Michael’s Churchyard, Flixton.

George enlisted in the Manchester Regiment service number 24893 and then the 1st/5th battalion of the Alexandra Princess of Wales Own Yorkshire regiment service number 35396. He is recorded as enlisting in Wood Green North Finchley.

He was killed in action on 11th April 1918 in France and Flanders and is buried in Department-du-Nord, Nord-Pas –Calais, France.

He was awarded the Victory British and 15 Star.

He is remembered on his parents’ headstone and by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
