Charles Percy Oakes

CHARLES PERCY OAKES
1898 – 28th March 1918

Charles was born in 1898 in Urmston.

His parents were Charles born in 1867 in Urmston , a Police Constable and Sarah Ann Carr born in 1867 in Urmston. 
Charles died in 1907 and Sarah Ann in 1919. They are buried in St Catherine’s Churchyard, Barton. Thomas Dugdale Harland officiated at both funerals.

Charles had 2 siblings:

Ellen 1893 – 1953
Harry 1896 – 1967

Charles enlisted in Manchester into the 12th Battalion The King’s (Liverpool Regiment) service number 87975.

He was Killed in Action in France and Flanders on 28th March 1918.

He is buried in the Pozieres Memorial Cemetery, Department De-la Somme, Picardie,France.

He was awarded the Victory and British Medals.

He is remembered on his family headstone and with Honour on the Pozieres Memorial.
