The Diamond Jubilee Prayer
God of time and eternity, Sunday 13th November 2011We did remember them.
As a church family our act of worship included the planting of crosses bearing the names of service men and women from the parish who had given their lives whilst fighting for their country in the two world wars. These poppy crosses were laid by both children and adults.
In addition a wreath in memory of those service people who had died in more recent conflicts was laid by a serving officer in the RAF, who was a former choirboy and crucifer at St Mary's. Here are some more pictures
Sunday 2nd October 2011 On the same day Dr Simon Wright will be ordained deacon to serve as Curate in this parish, please remember them both in your prayers
Sunday 25th September 2011 This is a great honour for both Canon Chris and the Parish of St Mary the Virgin - Davyhulme, we wish him well in his new office.

Saturday 18th June 2011
Saturday 18 June was another milestone in the ministerial life of the Rev Andrea Jones, Assistant Curate at St Mary the Virgin, as she, along with 10 other of her colleagues from the Manchester Diocese, was ordained as a priest by the bishop of Middleton in Manchester Cathedral.
The church was full the following day, Sunday 19 June, as we welcomed back an old friend of our church, Bishop Steven, who preached at the 10.30am service where Rev. Andrea officiated at her first Eucharist.
Around 50 people gathered in the Church Hall from 09.30 hrs onwards to watch the Royal Wedding on a big screen, the atmosphere was fantastic, many of us were dressed up for the occasion with fancy hats, "Posh Frocks" and tantalisers. Sound and Vision man David battled with short interruptions to the picture, which we now know were mainly due to the BBC Website being overloaded. We cheered and sang hymns, it was almost like being in Westminster Abbey !
After the Royal Couple had arrived at Buckingham Palace we toasted the Bride & Groom with a glass of bubbly, followed by a delicious cold lunch prepared by Yvonne. After watching the kiss on the balcony and fly-past at 13.30 hrs (David had a good view !), we re-grouped for the afternoon celebrations which started at 14.30 hrs.
We took some photographs of the occasion
Our services for Holy Week and Easter captured the spirit of Christ's Death and Resurrection in Liturgy and symbolic Prayer Stations.

Manchester Diocese will be celebrating Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee with 12 acts of worship across the cities and boroughs of the diocese.
The congregation of St Mary the Virgin Davyhulme were privileged to have veterans of the Second World War, other ex-service men and women who had seen active service across the world and a serving RAF officer in the congregation on Remembrance Sunday.
The poppy wreaths in remembrance of those who had died in each world war, were laid by two members of our congregation, both veterans of the Second World War, one of whom had been a prisoner of war in Germany after being shot down in his Short Stirling bomber.
